Our History

The implementation of the social security program is one of the responsibilities and obligations of the State to provide social and economic protection to the people in accordance with the state's financial capacity.

Indonesia, like other developing countries, has developed a social security program, which is based on funded social security, namely a social security that is funded by participants and it is still limited to working people in the formal sector.

It was initiated with the Law No. 33 of 1947 jo Law No. 2 of 1951 on work accident, the Regulation of the Minister of Labor Affairs (PMP) No. 48 of 1952 jo PMP No. 8/1956 on Assistance Arrangement for Worker Health Provision Initiatives, PMP No. 15 of 1957 on the Establishment of Workers' Social Foundation, PMP No. 5 of 1964 on the Establishment of Social Security Fund Foundation (YDJS), and the enactment of Law No. 14 of 1969 on Basic Employment Affairs. Chronologically, the process of establishment of social security has become more transparent.
1977
After recording a number of sound progress and development, in terms of legal basis, protection and .. After recording a number of sound progress and development, in terms of legal basis, protection and management, in 1977 another significant milestone of social security development was obtained with the issuance of Government Regulation (PP) No. 33 of 1977 on Worker Social Insurance Program (ASTEK), under which all employers/private enterprises/SOEs must enrolled their employees in ASTEK Program. In addition, PP No. 34 of 1977 on the formation of ASTEK Operator Forum, i.e. Perum Astek was issued.
1992
The next milestone was the enactment of Law No. 3 of 1992 on Worker Social Security Program (JAMSOSTEK).. Under PP No. 36 of 1995, PT Jamsostek was appointed as the provider of Worker Social Security Program. Jamsostek program provided basic protection to meet the minimum needs of workers and their families, by providing assurance of the ongoing flow of household income as a partial or full compensation of their lost income due to social risks.
2004
Furthermore, at the end of 2004, the Government also issued the Law No. 40 of 2004 on National Social Security System.. This law was issued to respond the Amendment to the 1945 Constitution with regard to Article 34 paragraph 2, which now reads: “The State shall develop a social security system for all people and empower marginalized and economically weak population groups based on human dignity values.” This protection benefit aimed to provide secure feeling to workers so that would enable them to give more concentration in increasing motivation and work productivity.
2011

2014
PT Jamsostek was changed into a Public Legal Entity. PT Jamsostek (Persero), which has transformed into BPJS (Social Security Agency).. PT Jamsostek was changed into a Public Legal Entity. 2015
On July 1, 2015, the Social Security Agency for Employment carried out 1 new program, namely the Pension Security as the maximum protection for Indonesian workers.
